India has the largest % of vegetarian population in the world. Milk🥛 and dairy products are the primary source of protein in the country.
India 🇮🇳 is the largest producer of milk and accounts for more than 20% of global milk production.
India’s milk production reached a record high of 240 million tonnes in 2024 and it has been growing consistently.
🇮🇳 has 70-80 million dairy farmers that make up 5% of the population.
🥛 and dairy products like ghee, curd etc have a huge cultural and culinary significance.
There are a quite a few large and small dairy companies – both cooperatives and privately held.
Dairy companies behave as commodity companies in the back end and if they push high value products like ghee, curd, ice creams
then they behave as FMCG and hence warrant a higher valuation multiple.
